“WHERE QUALITY ALWAYS COUNTS!”
The Lodge herd of pedigree Limousins was established by the late Bill Callion in 1980 at Lodge Farm, Great Clifton, Cumbria.  Our first Limousin bull Lumbylaw Orator was purchased in 1979, this was followed by the purchase of further bulls and females from top herds such as Goldies, Uplands and Tanhill.

A major reduction sale of the Lodge herd was held in July 1993, where our top price was for Lodge Ella, an Uplands Batman daughter out of Ravelaw Abigail, who sold for 8,500gns to Mr Les Wilson.  She was placed Reserve Female Champion at the Royal Show and Champion at the Great Yorkshire Show in 1992.

After the sale the nucleus of the current Lodge herd, 10 maiden heifers and two older cows moved north to Bolfornought Farm, Stirling which is situated on the east side of Stirling, only two miles from the city centre. Bolfornought Farm consists of approximately 300 acres of arable ground, where a mixture of Scots Timothy Hay, Spring Barley and Spring Oats are grown.

It was at this point a number of Ronick cows belonging to Wendy joined the Lodge herd, namely Ronick Fumby and Ronick Flair. The main influence on the herd from these original cows has been from Ronick Fumby who died in January 2008, aged 18 years old.  Out of the 40 cows currently in the herd over a third of them are related to her.

Over the past 30 years the Lodge herd has not only done well in the show circuit (see show results) but also in the sale ring as well.  We have sold bulls to a top of 10,500gns for Lodge Raleigh by Ronick Luke in Carlisle May 2002 and Lodge USA, another Ronick Luke son, was Supreme Champion at Carlisle in October 2004 and sold for 9,200gns.

In the past few years we have also imported a number of animals from France, from various herds including Champeval, Patureau, Benoit, Dessalas and Earl Lagautriere, to introduce new blood lines into the Lodge herd.

Over the years it has always been our policy to use top quality bulls whether by AI or natural service, hence the depth of breeding in the cows we have today.  We have always bred for confirmation, shape and temperament and we would like to think our herd reflects this.

More information on our current cows in the herd can be found on our “Cow Families” page and more information on our herd sires, both past and present, can be found on our “Herd Sires” page.
